Empower Her Egypt: A Landmark Mapping Report on Women’s Discrimination and Unsafe Work in Rural Areas

We are thrilled to announce the completion and publication of our groundbreaking report: “Empower Her Egypt: Mapping Rural Areas of Women’s Discrimination and Hazardous Work.” This detailed study sheds light on critical rural regions in Egypt—Qalyubia, Sharqia, Beheira, Dakahlia, and Kafr El-Sheikh—where women face significant challenges, including discrimination, marginalization, and exposure to hazardous work.

About the Report

The report was developed as part of the “Empower Her Egypt” project, a collaborative initiative between Microjustice Egypt and the Slovenian Embassy in Cairo, supported by the Slovenian Development Fund. Using the innovative Microjustice Barometer methodology, the study highlights:

• Gender gaps in legal, social, and environmental frameworks.
• Barriers to justice, economic inclusion, and environmental sustainability for rural women.
• Actionable solutions to promote empowerment and sustainable development in these communities.

Through desk research, stakeholder consultations, and participatory data analysis, the report provides evidence-based recommendations to foster gender-sensitive solutions for rural women.

We invite you to download the full report and explore its findings and recommendations. Together, we can take meaningful steps toward empowering rural women and addressing the systemic challenges they face.

This project would not have been possible without the dedication and support of our partners. We extend our deepest gratitude to:

• The Slovenian Embassy in Cairo and the Slovenian Development Fund for their invaluable sponsorship.
• The local communities and stakeholders who participated in the study and provided critical insights.
• The hardworking team of researchers and legal experts whose commitment to justice and equality is the foundation of this work.
