Empower Her Egypt

Empowering Rural Women in Egypt – Introducing the “Empower Her Egypt” Project

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the “Empower Her Egypt” project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing the rights and working conditions of women in rural areas of Egypt. This collaborative effort between the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Cairo and Stichting Microjustice4All marks a significant step towards addressing the pressing issues faced by women in these communities.

Rural women in Egypt often face numerous challenges, including gender discrimination, marginalization, and hazardous working conditions. The “Empower Her Egypt” project seeks to tackle these issues head-on through a series of well-structured activities and interventions designed to create a safer and more equitable environment for these women.

The Project Aims to:

  1. Identify and Map Critical Rural Areas Our first objective is to identify and map rural areas where women face the most significant challenges. By conducting extensive research and surveys in collaboration with local and state-level environmental and agricultural agencies, as well as NGOs, we aim to pinpoint areas with high levels of gender discrimination and hazardous working conditions. Utilizing GIS and mapping tools, we will visualize and analyze this data to identify priority areas for immediate intervention.
  2. Raise Awareness on Key Issues Raising awareness about the health and safety risks faced by women in rural workplaces is crucial. To this end, we will develop educational and promotional materials and implement robust social media campaigns. Microjustice will organize workshops in five targeted governorates to educate local women about their rights and inform local men about the importance of improving working conditions for women and promoting environmental sustainability.
  3. Develop a Women’s Toolkit for Labor and Environmental Rights Empowerment through knowledge is a key aspect of our project. We will create a comprehensive toolkit focusing on gender rights related to labor and environmental issues for women in targeted rural areas. This toolkit will include packages of products and guidelines tailored to specific legal needs, providing legal analysis and recommendations. Furthermore, we will integrate this toolkit within the Digital Legal Aid Platform (LAP) to enable affordable access to labor and environmental legal services.
  4. Engage Stakeholders and Compile a Final Report A vital part of our project involves engaging with stakeholders and compiling a final narrative report. This report will visualize data from our research activities, showcase results from our awareness campaigns, and map relevant stakeholders and key issues in labor and environmental law. To conclude the project, we will host a call-for-action event in Cairo, inviting legal aid providers, stakeholders, and embassy representatives to discuss the project’s outcomes and future steps.

The “Empower Her Egypt” project is not just an initiative; it’s a movement towards creating a better, more equitable future for rural women in Egypt. By addressing systemic issues through research, education, and legal empowerment, we aim to significantly improve the lives of these women, providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to secure their rights and enhance their working conditions.
